The MenB vaccine is available at Trident Pharmacy from 20 July 2026. Appointments are arranged through the NHS — how you access the service depends on which group you’re in:
Year 13 age group
Born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
Book your appointment online through the NHS booking service. You’ll need to be registered with a GP in England.
New students under 25
Starting university or residential college for the first time this autumn
Simply use our walk-in service — no appointment or booking needed. Bring proof of your place. You do not need to be registered with a GP. Please contact us first to check stock availability.

Walk-in service
New students under 25 — no appointment needed. Pop in during our opening hours with proof of your university or college place, and once we’ve confirmed your eligibility we can vaccinate you on the spot. You do not need to be registered with a GP to use the walk-in service.

Why get the MenB vaccine?
Meningococcal B (MenB) bacteria can cause meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) and septicaemia (blood poisoning). These are serious, fast-moving illnesses that can be life-threatening and can lead to lasting problems such as hearing loss, brain damage or amputation.
Starting university or college — especially moving into shared or halls accommodation — is a higher-risk time, because close contact with lots of new people makes the bacteria easier to spread through things like kissing, sharing drinks or vapes, and prolonged close contact. First-year university students are significantly more likely to develop the disease than others of a similar age.

Who is eligible?
You can get the free NHS MenB vaccine at Trident Pharmacy if you are in one of these groups:
Year 13 age group
Everyone born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 (the school Year 13 age group for 2025/26).
New university students
Under 25 (born on or after 21 July 2001) and starting undergraduate higher education for the first time this autumn.
Residential college students
Under 25 (born on or after 21 July 2001), starting further education for the first time this autumn and living in college accommodation or halls.
International students and students from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are also eligible.
What to bring to your appointment
- Everyone: a way to confirm your date of birth.
- Students (groups 2 & 3): evidence of your offer for the 2026/27 year — for example a UCAS confirmation, or an offer letter from your university or college.
When you may not be able to have it
You will not be given the vaccine through this service if you have already:
- completed a 2-dose course of Bexsero® within the last 5 years; or
- completed a 2-dose (given at least 6 months apart) or 3-dose course of Trumenba® within the last 5 years.
If you have a fever or are unwell on the day, or have had a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to a previous dose or any ingredient of the vaccine, our pharmacist will discuss the best option with you. If you are not sure whether you qualify, just ask us — we are happy to check.
How the vaccine works
The MenB vaccine used is Bexsero®, given as a single injection into the upper arm. You need two doses for full protection, with the second dose given at least 4 weeks (28 days) after the first.
Get your 1st dose as early as you can. First doses are available until 31 December 2026 and second doses until 31 March 2027 — but you should aim to complete both doses before the academic year begins so you are protected in time. Your second dose does not have to be at the same pharmacy, and it takes around two weeks after the second dose to build good protection.
Our vaccination process
- Arrival & eligibility check. Our friendly team will welcome you and confirm your eligibility (date of birth, and your student evidence if relevant).
- Assessment & consent. A pharmacist will go through a few health questions, answer anything you want to ask, and take your consent.
- Vaccination. You will receive your Bexsero® injection in a private consultation room.
- Aftercare. We will give you an information leaflet, advice on side effects, and help you arrange your second dose.
Know the signs of meningitis and sepsis
No vaccine protects against every strain, so it is important to know the warning signs. Symptoms can appear in any order, and some may not appear at all.
Common early signs
- Fever, cold hands and feet
- Severe headache
- Stiff neck, dislike of bright lights
- Being very sleepy, confused or hard to wake
- A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass
Do not wait for a rash. If you or someone you know is seriously unwell and getting worse, trust your instincts and get urgent medical help — call 999 or go to A&E, and say you are worried about meningitis or sepsis.
What to expect after your vaccine
Side effects are usually mild and settle within a day or two. The most common are a sore arm at the injection site, headache, muscle aches, tiredness or feeling generally unwell. Over-the-counter paracetamol can help if needed. Speak to a healthcare professional if you feel unwell or are concerned at any time.

How much does the MenB vaccine cost?
Nothing. The MenB vaccine is completely free on the NHS for everyone who is eligible.
How do I get an appointment?
It depends on your group. If you’re in the Year 13 age group, book online through the NHS booking service (you’ll need to be registered with a GP in England). If you’re a new student under 25, you don’t need to book — just come to our walk-in service with proof of your place. We’re not able to book appointments over the phone, but we’re always happy to answer questions on 020 8946 6282.
How many doses do I need?
Two doses, given at least 4 weeks (28 days) apart. Try to get your first dose as early as you can so you can complete both before term starts.
Does my second dose have to be at Trident Pharmacy?
No. You can have your second dose at any participating pharmacy — but we’d love to see you back. Year 13 patients book the second dose through the NHS once they’ve had the first; students can simply walk in again.
What do I need to bring?
A way to confirm your date of birth. If you qualify as a new university or college student, please also bring evidence of your place for 2026/27, such as a UCAS confirmation or an offer letter.
I already had a MenB vaccine as a child — do I still need this?
Possibly. This offer is for eligible young people who have not completed a recent MenB course. If you have completed a full course within the last 5 years you may not need it. If you are unsure, call us on 020 8946 6282 and we will check for you.
Is the vaccine safe?
Yes. Bexsero® is a well-established, licensed vaccine. Side effects are usually mild — most commonly a sore arm, headache or feeling a bit unwell for a day or two.
